FAMILIES
LEARNING
TO
TEACH
PROGRAM
In
Chicago Lawn and Little Village
Universidad Popular’s Families Learning to Teach (FLT) program is a place
where families came together to learn to teach to connect to one another
and to build stronger families and healthier communities. Its’ goal is to
make parents not only their children’s first teacher, but also their
best.
Our FLT Four Components:

Adults as Learners
of the
English language and the US Culture to better communicate with their
Children’s school teachers, nurses, doctors and others.

Children as Learners :
FLT
prepares children to succeed in school just as well as children coming
from better educated households.

Adults as Parents:
A
sizeable proportion of adults get into parenthood by accident or with no
preparation whatsoever. This is one of the reasons why FLT chooses to do
a great deal of parenting skills development work in the community.

Adults and Children Together:
FLT
prepares parents to become their children’s “teachers”, despite their lack
of academic training or certification.
