COMMUNITY LITERACY PROGRAM
The COmmunity LIteracy PROgram is Universidad Popular's literacy program. It serves as an umbrella program for all other educational projects that those who work with UP develop. COLIPRO emphasizes UP's participatory methodology of education with, by, and for the community by creating educational projects which help community residents empower themselves, their families, and their communities. To do this, UP's volunteers and staff work together with participants to help make this slow, somewhat daunting education and empowerment process less difficult - in other words, they facilitate and therefore act as facilitators. At the same time, UP staff and volunteers learn with and from participants, thus becoming participants themselves. COLIPRO consists of three main components. They work together in creating a spirit of community with participants, developing awareness, and forming responsibilities as individuals.
